Digital Quality 4.0 · Automated Drawing QC

Auto Ballooning — hours of marking up, done in minutes.

Automatically identifies, numbers and extracts dimensions from engineering drawings — eliminating the tedious manual marking that consumes hours of engineer time on every new part.

Step 1

Import the drawing

Load the drawing

Bring in your own drawing and balloon it. The file is read inside your browser — it is never uploaded and never leaves your computer.

This walkthrough uses a sample bracket drawing with two views, notes and a title block.

Works best on a PDF exported from CAD, where the dimension text is real text. A scanned sheet has no text to read, so use Manual map on it.

The problem

Manual ballooning is slow, and it is wrong more often than anyone admits.

Marking up a drawing by hand takes a qualified engineer hours, introduces transcription errors, and has to be repeated in full every time a revision arrives — because there is no reliable way to tell what changed.

The cost is not only the time. A missed characteristic is a missed inspection, and a missed inspection is a part that ships without being checked.

Click to re-number a revision

Web-based, drag-and-drop. No installation required — upload a drawing and the characteristics table is generated for you.

Key features

What the software does.

Automatic detection

Scans the drawing to identify dimensions, tolerances, GD&T symbols, notes and critical-to-quality attributes, creating a unique characteristic ID for each element.

Smart numbering

Intelligent sequencing with customisable formats — prefixes, suffixes and grouping — plus CTQ highlighting and one-click re-numbering for drawing revisions.

Characteristics table generation

Auto-generates the inspection table with balloon numbers, tolerance values, measurement methods and required instruments.

Revision management

Detects dimension changes between versions, provides side-by-side comparison and maintains revision history with impact analysis.

Documentation output

FAI and PPAP report generation with AS9102 and VDA standard compliance, using customisable templates.

Connected integration

Links directly with Control Plans, PFMEA/DFMEA, MSA, SPC and PPAP within the MAPP ZEN ecosystem.

Supported formats

Works with the drawings you already have

Interface

Nothing to install

A web-based platform with drag-and-drop upload. Engineers can start using it the same day, without an IT deployment project.

Business benefits

What it changes.

Hours back per drawing

Ballooning that took most of a day is completed in minutes, freeing engineers for work that needs judgement.

Error elimination

Characteristics extracted once, consistently, instead of transcribed repeatedly across documents.

Accelerated APQP

New part introduction moves faster because quality documentation stops being the bottleneck.

Compliance alignment

Output structured for AIAG and IATF expectations, and formatted to AS9102 or VDA where required.
